La Federación Comercializadora de Café Especial de Guatemala (FECCEG) was founded in 2006 as a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting agricultural production in marginalized rural communities, and to fostering national and international trade of agricultural products of smallholder farmers.
FECCEG arose due to the fluctuation of coffee prices in the years 2001 and 2002, in an effort to integrate producer groups to consolidate coffee volumes, market access, technical assistance, and coffee bean processing through the beneficiary.
FECCEG seeks the integrality of community actions to generate income, as well as capacity building of both men and women that help them to overcome barriers related to finances, education, gender, and market access. Likewise, FECCEG implements a philosophy of holistic life around organic agriculture, environmental stewardship, and human health. FECCEG’s goal is to create cultural changes that benefit the wellbeing of men and women producers, their families, their communities, and their natural surroundings.
FECCEG is a second level organization made up of 13 grassroots organizations in the departments of San Marcos, Sololá, Quetzaltenango, Huehuetenango, El Quiché, and Chimaltenango, bringing together 1162 producers with the participation of 454 women, representing 39% of total membership.
